Jodhpur is set at the edge of the Thar Desert. It is the 2rd largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The city is known as the “Sun City” for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys all year. It is also referred to as the “Blue City” due to the vivid blue-painted houses around the Mehrangarh Fort. Located on the foothill of a sandstone hillock, the city of Jodhpur seems like an oasis in the vast desert. Mehrangarh FortThe most magnificent fort is the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur. The fort is situated 400 feet above the city. There are 7 gates in this fort. There are a number of attractions within the fort like several palaces, galleries, a museum, temples and so on. The museum in the Mehrangarh fort is one of the most well-stocked museums in Rajasthan. Mehrangarh Fort is also a favorite spot for Bollywood and Hollywood movies. Today, it is acknowledged as one of the best preserved fort in India.

JTThe Jaswant Thada is an architectural landmark located in Jodhpur. It is a white marble memorial built by Sardar Singh in 1899 in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh. Jaswant Thada lies to the left of the Mehrangarh fort complex. It is a royal cenotaph made up of white marble. Some rare portraits of the former rulers of Jodhpur are also displayed here. Famous Jaswant Thada in Jodhpur, India is an example of architectural brilliance in India. The carving shows the genius of the sculptors. These stones are extremely thin and polished. As a result, the outside surface of the monument emits a warm glow when the sunrays fall on its surface. There is also beautiful marble jali work on the cenotaph. You can have some nice views from the terrace in front of the cenotaph. To visit the Thada you have to go through the rocky hills. This also lends a mystic aura to the whole visit.

BS LAkeBalsamand Lake is a lake situated 5 km from Jodhpur on Jodhpur-Mandore Road. Balsamand Lake is built in red sandstone and employing the typical ornate Rajput architectural style. It was initially conceived as the summer residence of the Jodhpur Maharajas. This lake is a popular picnic spot. The lake is surrounded by lush green gardens that house groves of trees like mango, papaya, pomegranate, guava and plum. Animals and birds like the jackal and peacock also call this place home..
