Ajmer
Ajmer is surrounded by the Aravalli Mountains. To the north of the city is a large artificial lake, called Anasagar, adorned with a marble structure called Baradari. Ajmer is an ancient crowded city with modern developments in the outskirts. Ajmer is an oasis wrapped in the green hills. Today, Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage centre for the Hindus as well as Muslims. Especially famous is the Dargah Sharif-Tomb of the Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, which is equally revered by the Hindus & Muslims. Pushkar is a town in the Ajmer district. It is situated 11 km from Ajmer . It lies on the shore of Pushkar Lake. The most famous among all is the ‘Brahma Temple’.Very few temples of Lord Brahma exist anywhere in the world. Other temples of Brahma, include Bithoor in UP, Khedbrahma in Gujarat, village Asotra near Balotra city of Barmer district; Uttamar Kovil (one of the Divya Desams) near Srirangam, Tamil Nadu and ‘Mother Temple of Besakih in Bali’, Prambanan in Yogyakarta are in ‘Indonesia’. According to Indian mythology, after visiting all the Hindu pilgrim towns and temples (Four Dhams), if Pushkar is not visited for worship, then salvation is not achieved. Pushkar fair continues for 5 days (October/ November) and these 5 days are a period of relaxation and merry-making for the villagers. This fair time is the most busy time for them, as this is one of the largest cattle fairs in the country. |
